“Hello, my name is Mahogany Wigfall. I am very blessed and thankful to share my story with you all. Just as a little background on myself – I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. I am the middle child of 4 siblings. My mother died when I was only 8 years old.
I have experienced and witnessed several types of abuse growing up. I dropped out of high school in the middle of my junior year. My uncle from the military legally adopted me to lead me on a better path away from my trials and tribulations.
As an adult, I attempted to pursue my GED several times, but SEVERAL life barriers and obstacles were presented in the way. At the age of 30, I became pregnant with my first child, so I decided to be a stay-at-home mother for my child. 5 years later I had my last child and then decided to pursue my GED again and told myself I would achieve my goal. Since then, my clinic referred me to Beacon Group to achieve my GED.
I am so blessed to have made a connection with my GED instructor Ms. Kelli and my math tutor Calvin who both helped me not to give up and to keep going no matter what. I took my first test which was Civics on October 20th, 2020, and finished my last test which was Science on May 6th, 2022 while juggling a household and raising 2 children. Since obtaining my GED I was connected with Darian who is in job development and placement services with Beacon Group and obtained employment with Walgreens.
Where I am right now is working at Walgreens on Saturdays and Sundays as a Fulfillment Specialist. On October 24th, 2022, I enrolled in college for early childhood education at Glendale Community College. As I am pursuing my degree, Ms. Kelli and Jeff from Beacon Group are still supporting me with my academic goals. Thanks to all who were part of my journey, I appreciate everyone.“
