Be supported while transitioning to the workforce

Beacon Group’s Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) offers no-cost services to youth with disabilities that help prepare them for transition to the workforce.

Pre-ETS is a series of workshops that cover 5 employment-related topics:

  1. Job Exploration
  2. Post-Secondary Education/Training Counseling
  3. Workplace Readiness
  4. Work-Based Learning
  5. Self-Advocacy Skills

The skills obtained in Pre-ETS are vital to the success and employability of youth with disabilities. Beacon’s program is proven to support transition-age youth with disabilities and lay the foundation for their future. Beacon Group is happy to work with both individuals as well as school teachers and administrators to coordinate services.

To qualify for Pre-ETS services, students must have a documented disability, be enrolled in an education setting, and be between the ages of 14-22 years old. Education programs can include public, private, or charter high schools, home-schools, college, a GED program, or a vocational education program.

Anyone can refer youth for Pre-ETS services by completing the Pre-Employment Transition Service Request form provided by Beacon Group. Once the referral process is complete and the student is enrolled in Pre-ETS, Beacon can provide Pre-ETS services virtually, in-person at Beacon Group, or in community spaces including schools, churches, libraries, community colleges, or universities.

At Beacon Group, we are proud to welcome different types of students, no matter what their career or education goals might be or where they are in the process of determining those goals.

Want to learn more?

In the Job Exploration workshop, students will work with the instructor to identify employment interests and explore different career paths that may be interesting to each individual student. Students will also learn about career awareness, visit work sites and employers, and hear from speakers and guests about their careers.

In the Workplace Readiness workshop, students focus on the soft skills that will make them successful long-term employees. Instructors will help students practice job interview techniques, manners in the workplace, and non-verbal communication to better understand employer expectations on punctuality and performance. The Workplace Readiness workshop also covers money management techniques and financial literacy.

In the Post-Secondary Education/Training Counseling workshop, students will learn how to complete a federal student aid application while exploring scholarship and post-secondary education opportunities. There are a variety of post-secondary opportunities available to people with disabilities and this workshop offers an in-depth approach to these options.

Beacon Group’s Work-Based Learning workshop helps students explore apprenticeship programs, volunteer opportunities, and support options that are available to them when they gain employment. This workshop uses the workplace or real work to provide students with the knowledge and skills to help them connect academic experiences to real-life work tasks and future opportunities.

The Self-Advocacy Skills workshop at Beacon Group teaches students about disability disclosure on the job. Instructors work with students on building and improving self-advocacy skills as well as how to ask for help or special accommodations at work.
